Dairy Manufacturer Sees Significant Reduction in TDS and Sludge Production Through an Effective Dosing Program of HydraFerm®

Dairy Manufacturer Sees Significant Reduction in TDS and Sludge Production through an effective dosing program of HYDRAFERM® bacteria, micronutrients and enzymes and HYDRABOND® polymer flocculent.

The large dairy worked with Hydroflux to evaluate a unique combination of freeze dried bacteria and polymer to reduce salts (TDS) and sulphates in their wastewater discharge.

The traditional method of reducing pH to 3.5 with acid, then flocking with polymer and elevating pH with Caustic for discharge, whilst proven and effective, does generate significant levels of salts and sulphates in final discharge.

Industrial Wastewaters can also vary in pollutant concentrations over short time frames that impact the quality of water discharged to sewer. HYDRAFERM® is a freeze-dried cultured aerobic, photosynthetic and facultative bacteria grown on a media of natural products.

Daily dosing of HYDRAFERM® (5 – 10ppm) at pH 6.5 – 8.5, reduces organic matter in the wastewater and sludge including soluble organics that cannot be separated using traditional chemical treatment.

The microorganisms decompose soluble and insoluble organic compounds. Using HYDRAFERM® to treat wastewater in food and beverage industries means the chemical treatment and sludge disposal costs will be lowered as well as savings made in operation and maintenance expenditure.

The degradation of organic compounds is drastically increased using HYDRAFERM®. Under the right conditions, HYDRAFERM® will also reduce acid and caustic dosing and minimise pH/polymer costs.

The tailored bacteria strains contained in HYDRAFERM® enables them to flourish and dominate the existing naturally occurring strains. Once this happens, the bacteria generate enzymes that help breakdown large nutrient molecules into smaller molecules. This often leads to significant reductions in odours as well as a reduction in acids and alkalis due to the program running at close to neutral pH levels.
